1-4: Brunch with Cheok, Shawn  and of course baby Kim who is the reason for my excitement every single time I am bound for Melbourne. This time I was brought to try out ‘Top Paddock’. Shawn and I ordered their famous Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes & also the Soft shell Crab Burger to share while Kim had her favorite fish dish- Pan Seared Snapper Mexican Style and Cheok ordered the Top Paddock Breakfast with Poached eggs. We also ordered a salad to share.

Reviews? I enjoyed it very much, especially the Pancakes as it was so fluffy , almost the best I have ever tasted. And also, the dishes were beautifully plated with petals and what nots. The Burger was a tad too salty but it was a smart combination. Oh, did I mention their Chai Latte was superb as well? There wasn’t a wait for us to be seated but the cafe was rather packed even though it was a weekday that we visited. The wait for our food was reasonable as well imo.

5-8: Some “me time” with the dearest girl after brunch. It’s like a usual routine. We walked along the city, did some grocery shopping while doing lots of catch up along the way before we knew it was time for me to head back to the hotel to catch some rest.

9-10: Francis and I on our night of touchdown into Melbourne.  We went to Chinatown to look for food that my Asian tummy is forever craving. We ordered XO Seafood Fried Rice, Beef Hor fun & Salted Fish Chicken Tou Fu. I honestly thought that the food was better than the ones served in Sg. Oops. Anyhoos, very glad that I was able to fly and work with him again! See you soon 🙂

Love,

Sheila

Rome

And so I jet setted off to Rome last week with a set of amazing crew and spent a good 2 days there re-visiting the iconic sights of the city. I last visited Rome in April 2011 with my family and so the memory of the sights were still pretty fresh.

Throwback:

I love how Italy gives out its unique vibe to its city. The strong Italian accent of its people. Words ending with a vowel (fun fact!) The romantic vibe you never fail to get with lovers flooding all around. The extra cautious moments you need for your belongings and companions. Visiting stalls after stalls to check out the repeated souvenirs just to ensure you get it at the “right lowest price”.

Highlight of the day was probably the famous Trevi Fountain where people would toss a coin or two, wishing for both luck and love. Well it might be a myth but you just got to because it is a “to-do-list-when-in-Rome”

Ciao..

Maastricht, Netherlands (super delayed)

Gonna leave Manchester and London till a later time to blog about!

So people have been asking where exactly is Maastricht. I don’t exactly know where it is? Wiki told me its a capital of a province named Limburg, located in the Netherlands. Its located somewhere near Amsterdam, Holland… Brussels and ..hmm. But anyway, its a beautiful place that I would say, underrated.

Spent my remaining days there because Gerald had classes to attend. Phew, thank God the shops were not like UK’s where it mostly closes at 5/6pm. So after a good afternoon nap on the day we arrived at Maastricht, I went for a walk in the city while the brother had classes from 6-8pm and did “window shopping”, was trying not to spend money (yet) because my goal of this trip was to not buy anything on impulse with regrets after and btw, I came here almost everyday because it was really a shopping haven. Zara, Bershka and all the different local brands.

Day 1:

IMG_7887

IMG_7883 IMG_7884

I could really get used to the life there. Weather is really good despite the light rain which happened quite frequently. Convenience is pretty decent, about a 15 minutes walk will reach you to the city where the supermarket is also located at. It’s not as convenient as Singapore but hey c’mon, the weather here is outrageous man. No such nonsense as rush or peak hour as well, there are actually more bicycles than cars. The locals there really enjoy cycling, they.are.practically everywhere.

IMG_7878Shops in the city

IMG_7877This was my 1st meal in Maastricht. Brother introduced me to this  “Durum Kib” ,”Durum” = “Kebab” and “Kib”= “Chicken”, which was super good! This cost $4.50 but the portion was really big.

IMG_7888
Dinner was back at my brother’s hostel and this meal was prepared by his friends, which are now mine too! Home-cooked food are always the best and they really did a good job.

Day 2:
Both my brother and his roomie, Joey had classes in the morning so I had all the morning to myself. Had a really good rest and only woke up at 11am. It was Vesak Day back in Singapore so I spent about an hour skyping Weixiang before I decided to go for a jog since I had nothing to do. See, I could really get used to the life there, not even 24 hours there and I took the risk to run.

But careless me being careless, forgot to turn off the stove before I left the room (I was boiling water) and only realized it after 20 minutes of slow jogging, it was really hard breathing. I swear I had a panic attack and immediately sprinted back to the hostel as fast as I could. Ok, not sprint but like literally ran non-stop for 10 minutes, which got my sweat kicking.

And when I went back……………………………………….. I realized I turn on the wrong stove #storyofmylife.

Bathed and off again I headed to the city to meet the brother who has FINALLY finished his classes and meetings. It was Friday and their “market” was open so kor took me to try some of the amazing snacks in Maastricht.

IMG_7906

IMG_7911This seafood stall sells a huge variety of seafood finger food. All the fishes looked super appetizing, maybe not here in this picture all thanks to my lousy Iphone camera.

IMG_7912I love fish so I may be biased but this is really ….. worth probably another 23943284 tries and it still wont go wrong. Batter was really crispy and the fish is just so moist. Not really a fan of tar tar and mayonnaise thought but it really tasted well with the fish.

IMG_7930IMG_7913IMG_7910 IMG_7908
I was telling my brother that it is really easy to propose there because flowers are so cheap, not to mention pretty too! I wanted some but…. it wouldn’t be practical.

Next up: Belgian Waffles

IMG_7919IMG_7916IMG_7918
It was 2 euros for a small waffle, quite pricey but it was worth the try! Didn’t like it initially because the flavor was quite new to my taste-buds but slowly enjoyed it all the way till the last mouth of it. You can choose from a couple of toppings and I totally would have chose a scoop of ice cream if I knew before my waffle was already 3/4 gone.

Went window shopping after again! Really enjoyed myself just strolling along the streets catching up with my brother and visiting the different unique shops in Maastricht. Hollister was an exception because they were having a sale, I think we stayed for almost 2 hours because the Wongs being the Wongs  just couldn’t decide about getting which pieces, as always and usual.

Dinner time and the rest came to find us. Italiano for the night because the famous Thai restaurant they wanted to bring me to was full. This is another favorite of theirs so we settled our order pretty quickly. All of us were really hungry.IMG_7928
So yup, no pictures of food because lighting was bad but these are the bunch of nicest friends that accommodated to my stay while I was there. Joey, Jacjac and Zhi Yan on the left. Me, Gerald (my brother), Malcom and Kristie on the right!

Went back to the hostel after to have our daily fruit snack. Turned in early because I was really excited for shopping the next day and wanted to be all energized!

Day 3:  Roermond

Kor’s alarm rang at 6:45am and I actually woke up and got ready (enthu much). Meeting time was 8am and I was probably the earliest because Joey and Kor only woke up at 730am and Jac Jac winning the title, at 745 am! Still, we managed to prepare our own breakfast before heading for a good day of shopping. Ham and cheese for Joey, Gerald and I.

Roermond is a shopping outlet and it only opens at 10am. Us being the kiasu Singaporeans, decided to take an early train so that we could reach Roermond by 930 ish and allowing some time allowance for walking.

Seriously too much good buys that we only had lunch at 4pm :

IMG_7933

IMG_7934

Special Limburg burger for lunch. The sliders were something like luncheon meat but way way tastier. It was so yummy with the sauces, I practically shut myself up at one corner to enjoy it.IMG_7945

Fritters (Fries) was a must they said, so a large one for us! We chose a sauce that was quite chapalang and it tasted amazingly good. I want to go back so badly……

IMG_7944And here’s us after 10 hours of shopping. 1 word: SATISFIED

So the highlight of the day wasn’t shopping when we saw this while walking back to the train station..

IMG_7942 IMG_7943
It was a 360 within a 360 degree ride and which you can see, is quite high.  Kristie, Joey, Kor and I decided to take the ride. After all, #YOLO #YOLO #YOLO. It was 4 euros per person for a 4 minutes ride. For some reason while we were up there, we couldn’t stop laughing, which leads to us not being able to scream. It was super cold and windy but the ride was really good. The scary part was the 360 turn within your seat, especially when you’re facing down while you’re all the way up the sky. Felt a little groggy but really, thumbs up to this.

Durum Kib (Chicken Kebab) for dinner again followed by heading to a nearby pub for some final soccer match of a season.

Day 5
Woke up and prepared breakfast but mostly were done by awesome Joey!
IMG_7946
Just look at the eggs! I am not a fan of eggs if they are wet. So I don’t really eat Eggs Benedict, Half boiled eggs or Scrambled but these, seriously …..was damn good. Joey must have cooked his heart out. I saw him standing at the kitchen for at least a good 20 minutes with the eggs, stirring and stirring.

After a super heavy breakfast, I knew I couldn’t waste the day away. It was a Sunday and they warned me that the shops in the city would be closed. I went ahead still because I knew the supermarket were open and I needed to buy some snacks back from friends and family.

Thank you kor, for this amazing trip you have planned for me despite your busy schedules. Thanks for doting on your sissy so much yet asking for no returns.

I am really blessed because I know of people who aren’t exactly close to their siblings as I am. Well, my brother and I weren’t exactly close in the past. He doesn’t talk to me (I think he hates me), neither does he acknowledge my presence in school or wherever. My cousins and childhood friends would probably understand what I am talking about. Whenever we fight, he’ll always takes the rap and Daddy always beats him, instead of me. I probably didn’t know what “guilty” was then but that was how I always felt. I would always sob when I’m sleeping because I feel the pain he feels physically and emotionally (after getting beaten). Despite all, I have always loved him and feel extremely happy when he talks to me, even for a sentence. I always feel comfortable talking to him.. maybe because he seem to be able empathize my feelings and make me feel like a better person at the end of the day.

My brother has always been my role model, especially when it comes to how he excels in school consistently and how he is able to be so thrifty yet at the same time getting the best things out of the amount he spends. Sad to say, I am a complete opposite from him, ha ha ha. We got closer during secondary school days and even closer when he enlisted! Maybe distance really makes two closer? I’m just so thankful that this trip made us even closer. See why I said this trip was valuable? Such bonds, you can’t exchange with money.

Thank you Lord, for blessing me with such a humble and sophisticated sibling, one who loves me without condition or asking anything in return. Girls reading this, he’s single 🙂

Aside

He wants to read a blogpost

So its my boyfriend’s 22nd today but sadly, we are not celebrating together. Since I have an urge to blog today, let me pen down a note on how Wx & I normally spend our rest days together.

For those of you who might not have known, I have taken a break from studying and decided to be your Singapore Girl (aka Flight Attendant/ ” kong zhong xiao jie”/ high-class maid / waitress) Since work have officially started, my schedules has brought my life to a serious hay-wire. This is the part I often whine and loathe about, especially when I don’t get to be here during festive seasons (it sucks). It is sad that I actually do feel the drift between some of my friends. However, on the other hand, I do actually get even closer to some and you know who you are, thank you.

Enough. Before I actually side track into an entire blog post about my not-so-proud-about job, let me come back to what makes me happy. Wei Xiang.

Wx is currently serving the nation and thus, only books out on Friday night. Most of the time, I will get to see him at least once a week, thank Lord Jesus. The thing here is, every time after a flight, be it a short one or a long one, I get extremely exhausted and need an almost perpetual rest. My extremely thoughtful boyfriend on the other hand never once complained about this change of lifestyle. He will, without fail, travel all the way to my place and despite having no plans, he is always dressed nicely, getting ready to spend the day together but unfortunately, my lazy bum just can’t bring me out of the bed. This is something I am guilty about I need to do something about it.

So there we have, the lazy days. I will sleep in while he uses the laptop. When I wake up, there will be 2 directions from here. Either we head out or I will decide to cook us a meal. Usually we’ll opt for the latter. Oh sorry, I mean I will make the decision. Wx leaves it to me to decide because he is as thoughtful as that. I enjoy cooking and wx knows that. He’s becoming better in the kitchen too. He helps  with the mis-en-place, like the chopping of onions and garlics and also doing the simpler dishes like scramble eggs and tossing the dishes with instructions given to him.

Wx’s scramble eggs are out of the world. Wx is someone who puts a lot of effort into things that matter him. Many times, I spy him searching for YouTube videos on how to cook a particular dish just because I requested for him to do up at least a dish of our meal.

There are times where my mum will cook or us too.

This was my Christmas Dinner prepared by my family after touching down from Brisbane, I felt so love.

IMG_1557

There are couple of photos of our meals where you can view at Wx’s instagram, all home-cooked with love. I don’t usually have a habit of snapping pictures of my food anymore unless they are photo-worthy.

One of our characteristics within our couple traits has got to be “couch potato”. We enjoy chilling on the sofa and watch drama, while snacking. This is where I get free massages too. No one beats wx’s massage, period.

On the contrary, we’re pretty healthy too. We often go for 5km/10km jogs and gym occasionally when we feel like it.

Weekend brunch was always our thing until my job has got in the way. I would say Wx loves brunches more than I do and occasionally he would request for us to head for one whenever he has a cafe he wishes to visit. Normally he will pick a few and leave it to me to decide on which I prefer.

ImageImage

This was the latest one we have been -Bochinche. A little bit pricey but I found it quite valuable judging by the amount and quality of food you get. Can’t wait to return. This is Wei Xiang’s favorite brunch cafe by far.

Talking about cafes, here’s our favorites :

-Sheila’s home (thick skin abit)
-Riders Cafe
-Bochinche
-Toby’s Estate
-Selfish Gene
-Vegan Burg

For Japanese:
Everywhere. We love Jap food way too much

For Ramen:
-Marutama (Mine)
-Ippudo(His)

Alrighty. Time for bed once again. Being bed ridden could be my 2nd job.

Loving you always ,

Part 1: Liverpool

Hello! Just returned from a trip to the United Kingdom/Europe. Very fortunate to visit Europe again because I have just been there last year. However, this trip was different. It wasn’t the type where I could indulge staying in 3-5 stars hotels or flew with a full-serviced airline. Nonetheless, it was nothing short of amazing. It was meaningful, valuable and definitely memorable. I flew with the intention to travel alone with my brother who is currently doing his exchange program in Maastricht, Netherlands. This trip was mostly self-funded and planned!

Flying off the night after my graduation made the day filled with more excitement. However, it took me close to 24 hours to reach London because I had a 10 hour transit over at Helsinki, Finland. Crazy but well, shit you do just to save money. Oh by the way, I only paid slightly above S$1K for my flight with Finnair. Honestly, the flight there was the WORST. The in-flight entertainment sucked and I was unlucky to be seated next to a dude whom I had one word to describe -Corpulent. The long transit surprisingly was deemed bearable. WIFI was available so I could whatsapp while chilling at Starbucks. Dad skyped me almost every hour to keep me accompany while he’s on a short vacation with Mum at Malacca.

IMG_7638IMG_7640

Starbucks at Helsinki Airport.

Then it was another 3 hours to London bound. So happy to see my brother waiting for me at the Arrival spot, we ran and gave each other a hug. It’s been four months! Our first stop was to Piccadilly Circus where we strolled along the street where the buskers performed before heading to Euston Station to catch our train, heading to our first destination, Liverpool!

Cabbed to our mini hotel/hostel and settled in for our well needed rest before starting our engines again for the next day.

This was my favorite out of the 3 hostels I’ve stayed in UK. Why? They had the widest selection of food for breakfast. See, I’m so easy to please. Serve me good food and I’ll be more than happy.

Staying in a hostel is different whereby you share a common kitchen and a pantry. Unlike the other 2 hostel in Manchester and London, this hostel provided milk, many different kinds of cereal, spreads and yogurt. Slurps.

IMG_7674 A five minutes walk arrived us at the Tube station (their MRT) Bought their day passes and yes, the Wong siblings are ready to explore the city!

IMG_7825Saw the yellow shelter and immediately asked for a shameless shot.

We got off 2 stops later at Moorfields, where it was the nearest station to town because Lime Street (nearest station supposedly) was down for some maintenance. IMG_7794

Took a good 10 minutes walk to arrive at the Beatles Museum. Got our tickets and yay! off we go to spend the entire morning at the museum. Let the pictures speak for itself:

We had this interactive thingy on. Quite interesting. There were at least 30+ numbers we could select. Each were meant for different location. Every location has a different number which we could hear from the interactive device more about the Beatles.

IMG_7725IMG_7797
how do you like our long legs?

IMG_6679IMG_6678
We spent close to 2 hours in the museum. It was really incredible, we were lost for words. It absolutely is a museum does not make you feel like your money has been wasted on just seeing lame stuff. The creators really put much effort into creating this museum for the Beatles lovers. Every corner and area of the place is filled with something relate-able of the bealtes generation. From how they met to how they became famous and how they then decided to disband.

Off to Anfield Stadium where we caught the Liverpool VS QPR match. My brother was really stoked for this, I could really tell. Prior to that, we went to the Liverpool store to purchase some souvenirs (scarf, jersey….) and if there was a rape button, I guessed he must have really abused it. That’s your loyal Liverpool fan out there, he even bought Liverpool hangers.

Least is needed to say so for now please enjoy the photos :

IMG_6769

This sight was amazing. Guilty us were sitting at QPR’s side because Liverpool tickets were ALL sold out by the time we went onsite to purchase. I used to admire Park Ji Sung when he was in Man Utd and thought he was cute. However ,watching him played that day brought mix feelings. On one hand, I felt happy that I could see the ugly-cute him life but on the other, I felt miserable watching him play and just wished the ball wasn’t passed to him. He sucked la. Oops

Christmas

I don’t know of a better post to start off with so let’s do with Christmas.

Christmas is the perfect season all year round, I mean how is Christmas not to be loved?

Apart from all the gifts exchange, festive celebrations, putting up a Christmas Tree together and simple reunion lunch or thanksgiving dinner to celebrate the occasion, people need to know the reason behind this season – Jesus.

A bit of shame and guilt down here apart from knowing its Jesus’s birthday, I decided to google a bit more about Christmas and here’s what I found:

1) “Christmas isn’t about Christ anymore….. It’s about the economy and making sure the big retailers make their bottom line on Black Friday…..”
Exactly.

2) “In many parts of the world, Christmas is the day when people celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem two thousand years ago. People who remember Christmas as a religious holiday celebrate the birth of Jesus and his coming into this world. To them, he is recognized as the Son of God and the Savior of the world. According to the Bible, Jesus was born in a manger because there was no room for him and his parents, Mary and Joseph, in an inn. Today, people often attend church, organize family gatherings, and decorate their homes and businesses. People feel the giving spirit and donate their time and money to worthy causes, or provide volunteer service to the needy. Christmas is also celebrated as a secular holiday when parents and children talk about Santa Claus and Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer.”

Yup, it’s something that I know too.

3) Why did He come? Why did God send His son to this sometimes cruel and hard world? He sent Jesus to us so that one day, He would grow up to become a very important part of history. His story (history) is one of truth, love, and hope. It brought salvation to all of us. Without Jesus, we would all die in our sins.

Jesus was born so one day the price could be paid for the things we have done that are wrong. The Bible says that all have sinned. We are all born with a sin nature. We do things that do not please God. Through the sins of Adam and Eve, we have all inherited that sin nature. We need to have that removed. The only way is through Jesus. Jesus came so He could die on the cross for ALL of our sins. If we believe that Jesus died for our sins, we can ask Him to come into our hearts and forgive us. Then, we are clean and made whole. We can know that heaven is a place where we can go to when this life is over.

“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.” I John 1:9

We can truly be happy at Christmas! No matter what may be happening, we can know that we are His children. We then become sons and daughters of God. Heaven will be our home one day”

True enough, it’s a season to show God’s love to one another and also a season where hopefully the lost will find their way to Jesus.

Prelude

So here I am, once again at a clean state,

Because Tumblr is a curatorial space for cool teens (like you) to post nice pictures. I’d rather keep it as a space for fashion/inspiration – galaxies, tons of skinny Caucasian teenagers, amazing food which will never look like the one I have on my table, bags I can only wish to own, tattoos and what not .

Because Livejournal is too complicated for me. I’d rather not take the risk.

To the sudden motivation that found me wanting to catalogue my life down once again, please stay for as long as it is possible.

To that, cheers and may the force of consistency ignite with me.
